I recently rewatched one of my favourite films, "The Dreamers" by Bernardo Bertolucci. Behind the cinematic references, an important discussion on the need to save the culture & strive for revolution.
I haven't seen the Dreamers, but it's been on my list. Lovely article here and glad to be reminded of it. Have you seen "The Baader Meinhof Complex" (2008)? It's one of the only serious left-wing films I've ever encountered here in the U.S. (it was in the public library DVD shelves, somehow it slipped through the censors). I'd be interested in your perspective.
Please, please watch “The Dreamers”, it’s really worth it and it made some waves when it came out bc of its political aspect and the nudity (yes, there’s nudity, just a heads up!). Haven’t watched “The Baader Meinhof Complex” but will do this weekend and will let you know about it!! Won’t be right away as I usually need at least 2 watches to really catch all the meanings, double entendres and such ! But will do! If I like it very much, might write up an article about it too 🥰
I really love Gilbert Adairs’ work with Raúl Ruiz. The lack of Ruiz restorations or general availability is ridiculous considering what often is restored and available [there is a conspiratorial part of me that things it’s because Ruiz is just too damn radical!]
Hope to watch Dreamers then this weekend as well. (Not to worry, there is nudity in B.M.C.) Cheers.
