My mum also brought me to the library quite early on and that’s how I got my love for reading! She always insisted and still does to read books and get your imagination flowing! So I find it so odd that being an early reader is highly celebrated because this showcases the high cognitive capacity of a child but as soon as I reached middle school it was seen as boring and nerdy to love to read!! And til this day this bugs me!! In my area, public schools and libraries have also partnered from what I read to encourage children to go to libraries in their free time and enjoy themselves! My local library even has a whole floor dedicated to the digital world that is closed down during school holidays and about to reopen soon as kids are going back to school next week! It truly warms my heart to see those collars happening! 🥹😍

I remember as a child that library time was my favorite part of the day. Like almost everyone in my family, I was an early reader, and I consumed books like I would starve without them. I also used to go to the library with my friends when other study spaces were closed on my university campus. My old school district just recently partnered with a public library, and now any student of that district can get a library card for free regardless of their address. I'm hoping that as time goes on, more people will start to appreciate libraries.

before i started going to the library, i kept purchasing books that i would never read, but the satisfaction i get from getting books for free + having a deadline to finish them has helped me read so much more. my local library has tons of Black liberation books that i wouldn’t have been exposed to otherwise and it has been the perfect place to meet for my community’s organizing efforts. library workers are so under appreciated for the way they provide tons of knowledge, resources, and emotional support to library goers, especially houseless folks who come in to have a safe space to rest. there is much to be said about the benefits of libraries so i just want to thank you for writing this and i hope it inspires others to support their local library 📚 💫

It is so beautiful to read this!! So glad you get to truly enjoy your library! And yes, librarians don’t get enough praise for the work they put to make those places safe havens for everyone ! I also hope more people will realise how crucial libraries are and invest more time to keep them alive ❤️‍🔥

I recently discovered the importance of libraries and the joys to be found in them. What do you mean I can access all these books and materials for free? It sounds magical. Unfortunately, public libraries either don’t exist in my country or are barely functional. So I have to make due with whatever I can find online :(

This is truly so so sad that public libraries worldwide are giving little regards by our governments!!! Thankfully we get to still access them, but it does not allow the entire humanly experience to meet up people and socialise !

One little bit of nuance I want to add here.

I’ve several family members who find the visual reading to be a highly labored process for several different reasons. But! They Love audio books. Making digital and financially accessible spaces for these resources is super important too!
